i was watching tv and my bro switched to HBO. Black hawk down was on the screen. it was near the end, but they were still fighting. The group of americans were fighting for the liberty of somalis. they were losing and had to retreat but the situation was dangerous and they finally got out.
Now as they were fighting i was really struck. it was as if God was showing me sthg. i was overwhelmed by the courage of the soldiers. their willingness to lose their lives for the battle. They were losing, and they were preparing for a retreat. but they never, never allowed any man to be left behind. it just struck me that we, are in the same way soldiers for God, fighting this invisible war taht is greater than any in the history of mankind. the war that involves not just nations, but heaven and earth. we, together with brothers and sisters all over the nations, are soldiers of God. Are we fighting hard? are we willing to give it all out for what we'er fighting for? the following are excerpts from the movie that really touched me:
Steele: How you doing?
Ruiz: It went in and out so the medic said I should be OK, couple of days. (same medic who signalled to Steele that Ruiz was dying.)
Steele:That's great news.
Ruiz:We going after them.?
Steele:You bet your ass we will, we got to regroup.
Ruiz:Don't go out without me, don't go back out there without me. I can still do my job.
Steele:You get some rest now OK?The fighting spirit of Ruiz. physically dying, yet not mentally. His mind constantly on the war, wanting to fight with all he's got.
Eversmann:You going back in?
Hoot:There's still men out there. Goddam. When I go home people ask me, they say "Hey Hoot, why do you do it man? Why? You some kind of war junkie? I won't say a goddam word. Why? They won't understand. They won't understand why we do it. They won't understand, it's about the men next to you. And that's it. That's all it isSometimes people just don't understand why we do it. (e.g missions).
Eversmann:I was talking to Blackburn the other day, and he asked me, what changed, why are we going home? And I said nothing. But that's not true you know. Everything's changed. I know I've changed. You know a friend of mine asked me before I got here, just when we were all shipping out. He asked me, "Why are you going to fight somebodyelses war? What do y'all think, you're heroes?" I didn't know what to say at the time, but if he asked me again I'd say no.I'd say there's no way in hell. No one asks to be a hero, it just sometimes turns out that way. We're not fighting someone else's war for nothing. we fight for their freedom too. (our mission f ield)
This war we're fighting here, its abt the people, the devil and God we're talking about here. what also struck me alot was the leave-no-man-behind spirit they had. As christians maybe we ought to parellel this to our lives. to leave no man behind. when fellow brother and sisters grow weak. when they need 'reinforcement', when they need 'ammo' we ought to leave no man behind.
Unfortunately, i must say i lack this. just recent incidents have shown it. i couldnt accept someone who is wants to come close to God, who wants this reinforcement and ammo from us. soo... im gonnat start trying. hee. God will do the work. i know it.
